The Farm
Free Spirit Stables at Rushing Winds Farm is a 30 +/- Acre Horse Farm in Frederick County, Maryland located off Route 15N on Masser Road. For many years our farm has dedicated its efforts to aiding horses from all parts of the United States. Our horses come from all "walks of life" and some have suffered physical and mental/emotional mistreatment. Here at Free Spirit Stables at Rushing Winds Farm our goal is to provide each horse a "new way of life" through our Horse & Pony Sponsorship Program and other farm activities and events. We also concentrate on providing a safe, responsible, and giving environment for each person who rides, volunteers or visits our farm.
The Horses
Whether the horse has been physically or mentally abused, our goal is to "completely rehabilitate and provide food and care for its well being". Upon its arrival to our farm, each horse is examined. We make efforts to establish whether or not the horse has had its recent injections / shots and engage in having a complete physical examination performed to determine the horse's current overall physical health and well being. The farm then begins to work with each horse through training and general physical care (food, water, administering medication etc.).
Once each horse has had the proper care, treatment(s) (if necessary), rest, etc. our staff then considers placing the horse in to our sponsorship program where a adult/child learns how to ride and care for a horse. Our horses then can be utilized for other services our farm offers as well, such as our riding camps, horse shows, birthday parties and trail rides.

Dreams
For years the volunteers that put all their efforts in to this farm have made it a place where all students feel safe and that they are a part of something special. Horses touch each person's heart in a way that has no explanation. The volunteers, students, parents, etc. make it that way by chipping in each day, just "because". They too believe in the small miracles that happen when they are here. It a great experience when watching with your own eyes, children growing and becoming responsible for an animal that is 3 times their size. They become secure and feel safe with that animal while they are grooming them or riding them. A trust that isn't hard to come by and one that they will never forget. For those out there who may understand this statement but still find it easy to want to take it all away from this farm, please reconsider what you are truly taking away...the small dream of one child to the many dreams of all who believe and make a difference here at our farm.
